Storage combined with function is a must in a small space and will ensure your basket will be put to good use. A must for any college gift basket is editable treats, especially those that require little or no preparation. Many college students are crammed for time or don't have access to a stove, so try cookies, chips, trail mix, or granola bars. If you student will have a microwave, include quick fixes like popcorn. Your gift basket can also include small, practical items your students may not have readily available in their dorms; band-aids, aspirin, nail clippers, tweezers, or packets of gum.

Since your student will probably share a living space with at least one other person, include a clip-on book light so theycan read or study without disturbing their roommate. If your student has a favorite nail color, facial cleanser, or some other toiletry, you can include that as well. Finally, try and tailor your college gift basket to your individual college student. If your student is an education major, include craft supplies they will be able to use as a student teacher. If they're a literature major, throw in a copy of one of their favorite classic novels. And for an extra touch, include a small album with pictures of family, pets, friends, or landmarks from their hometown.
